Our History and PhilosophyFolkWorks is the longtime dream of Cease Giddings, who wanted to share with the public the treasures that can be found in the American folk art and antique world. She owns the gallery with her husband, Paul.
After 28 overseas moves in almost as many years during Paul’s military career, the couple settled in Evanston, Illinois. They chose Cease’s childhood neighborhood as the site for their gallery, marking the culmination of decades of planning and preparation.
During their travels, Cease and Paul came into contact with a range of artists and artistic styles, which is reflected in the rich colors and textures of FolkWorks Gallery.
Wanting to give each of their artists special billing, they conceived the idea of staging a special show each month. The shows spotlight the individual artists’ works while at the same time ensuring a rotation of pieces throughout the gallery.
The guiding philosophy of FolkWorks is simple: Give the best!
